Well....despite the fact I moved to Oahu four years ago, I still remain to some respect the consummate New Yorker. With that said, I approach things with just a bit of skepticism. I always heard about Helena's, but always managed to miss opportunities to go...until today!

It was definitely busy, but despite this we waited about 30 minutes for our table and the staff was more than patient and communicative, updating the crowd on their table status.

We finally sat down and and ordered the Kalua pig and Cabbage, Beef Stew, Lau Lau and PipiKaula Shortribs.

The kaula pig was tender flavorful and downright awesome...as was the beefstew. My favorite was the shortribs...wow! They were well cooked, yet tender and I absolutely devoured them! The Haupia was the perfect way to end it all. Can't wait for my next visit.

(For all you Island visitors...If you eat at Helena's first...and then go to a Luau and eat their food...you will be disappointed with your Luau. Save the best for last...and check this place out for some real deal Hawaiian food!)
